Positive Women for Change
Positive Women for Change (PW4C) responds to the needs of individuals who have suffered traumatic circumstances resulting in the disarray of personal and household finances. Especially focusing on outreach to underserved women, the project founder, Kia Stearn, has designed a peer coaching curriculum that fosters positive behavior change, helping her clients successfully budget and manage cash flow on a limited income and to engage more fully with their community.
The hands-on program teaches participants how to identify, build and maintain healthy relationships with community resources specific to their needs. Participants learn how to make good use of support systems like transportation, food, housing and educational programs as part of their budget and financial plan. At the same time, Positive Women for Change provides participants with communication tools like scripts that help them negotiate solutions and positive outcomes with businesses like banks and credit unions, landlords and creditors.
